Y’all, we’re back, and this is the last post for May, as we got a bunch of updates.
First things first, we have a weekend with the Right Reverend Dr. Shirlene Holmes, who is my other mother and forever mentor, and I serve as a proxy to her estate. We are putting on these events for a weekend in June. Please share and consider RSVPing to see her work onstage. We only have a few signups, but please make it your mission to support the arts and make it part of your Juneteenth experience.
Dr. Holmes was a professor emerita at Georgia State University for over 30 years. She taught in the communications department, now known as the School of Film, Media, and Theatre. In her tenure, she’s taught at Clark, Spelman, and Morehouse; taken her work internationally, wrote plays about the Black experience, with a focus on Black women, LGBTQIA+ issues, and marginalized people. One of her magnum opuses, Since ’76 is a choreopoem that is a spiritual successor to her SHE-Ro Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls, which, when she met Shange back after a viewing of the show, changed her life.

Since ’76 is a vibrant exploration of identity, resilience, and the strength of African American women.

Now for your obligatory Warner Bros. and Paramount Merger update.
Rob Bonta, the California Attorney General, has stated that there are red flags on the play. He’s blowing the whistle and evaluating the ordeal. His office has not officially made a final decision to sue, but it could lead to breaking up the deal piecemeal. So, even if it goes through, Paramount Skydance ($PSKY) is not getting all of it.
Paramount has responded to the pushback and outcry from hundreds of thousands of Hollywood talent by stating, in an open release, that the merger is pro-competitive.
Recently, Bonta’s office has been aggressive with the crackdown on antitrust suits, so this could be a challenge to come.
Paramount is seeking to close the deal by July; however, it’s not likely. There is still scrutiny by California and EU governments, which is going to stall. Source: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/26/business/dealbook/vatican-ai-silicon-valley.html
A suit takes time, so Bonta’s office will carefully review this and begin the investigation. Mind you, this is all speculative until final; we do have evidence of the CA AG’s office reviewing this matter. With hard facts and evidence to block the merger, they can halt the July close, and this will be held up in court. This could also provoke international governments to do the same.
Prayers up, Paramount out, and Warner Bros. stays still. This has been your mini Rumble Report, and until next time, stay groundbreaking.
Incoming Creative Spotlight for June
I’m working out the details, but soon, we’re going to introduce you to the writer’s group formed by Cindy Begel and Mercedes Augusta. A Twitter-based writer’s group that helps each other by reading each other’s scripts and building each other up. The spotlight itself is its own article as we get real accounts and interviews from the group.

A conversation with Brent Dunham and Director-y is in the works too, as the app is nearing 100% launch. We are excited to share more about Brent, his journey, and the work he’s doing bringing the creative community together.
Closing
It’s been a busy month, literally in between the last post and this one, 30 days of crazy. New job, new stories to tell, and pitching. I’m excited for June’s promises. Watch Hacks, Watch The Testaments, The Boys, Half-Man, Euphoria’s Finale tonight, and The Chi back on Paramount/Prime Video, and go support your independent artists.
Until next time, stay groundbreaking and encouraged.
